Pearl processing steps

1.Washing of pearls
After picked-up, pearlsshould be washed immediately, otherwise colloid-like calcium carbonate and organic matter on the surface will condense, which makes pearl dull, and degenerated due to oxidation. Common washing methods we adopt are: 1). wash with soap water, 2). wash with salt water, 3). wash with lauryl alcohol sodium sulphate, 4). wash with hydrogen peroxide solution, 5). wash with hydrochloric acid, 6). wash with oxalic acid. 

2. Classification of pearls
Picked-up pearls-pearls suitable for processing-bleaching-polishing Then pearls of different grades are classified according to color, surface, size and roundness, etc.

3.Processing of pearls:    Punching-bleaching-whitening--polishing

1). Purpose of punching
a¡¢For chaining of pearls to make necklaces
b¡¢ Improve pearls with some defects by punching, such as pearls with small protuberances, and those with small black tail.
c¡¢ It helps chemicals penetrate into pearl layers when performing degreasing, bleaching, whitening and color optimizing.

2). Bleaching
Bleaching is the process to use chemicals to clean internal pearl layers with impurities and dirt, while not damaging pearl layers for re-appearance of the luster of pearls.

3). Whitening Pearls should be whitened after bleaching to further improve whiteness. 4). Polishing Put bleached or non-bleached pearls to the polishing machine, slowly put fragments of smashed tanned sheep skins and pearls to the polishing machine, mix the fragments of tanned sheep skins and pearls, then start the machine to roll the fragments of tanned sheep skins and pearls to increase the whiteness and luster of pearls. 

4. Uses of pearls after processing

1). Full-hole pearl-string them into pearl chain
